Early HOPE Education Reform Act of 2001; scholarship program for low-income students attending poorly performing schools
First Reader Summary
A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the O.C.G.A., relating to elementary and secondary education, so as to enact the "Early HOPE Education Reform Act of 2001"; to provide for a short title; to define certain terms; to provide that parents of students eligible to attend certain poorly performing public elementary and middle schools shall have the option of relocating the students to a school of their choice within the same local school system; to provide that low-income students who are eligible to attend certain poorly performing public elementary and middle schools shall be eligible to receive scholarships to be applied toward the cost of tuition at participating private schools and adequate local schools; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
