A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. Charles S. Bullock, III; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Charles S. Bullock, III, is a distinguished political science professor at the University of Georgia and one of the foremost authorities on legislative politics and Southern politics in the country, and his contributions to the University of Georgia and the State of Georgia are immeasurable; and

WHEREAS, he is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious honor of being named the Richard B. Russell Professor of Political Science at the University of Georgia; the Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor, the highest teaching award at the University of Georgia; and receiving the William A. Owens Award, recognizing his excellence in research and creative activity; and

WHEREAS, as the University of Georgia Legislative Intern Program director since 1973, Dr. Bullock has been instrumental in the academic development of more than three decades of University of Georgia student interns, many of whom have become prominent figures in Georgia politics and other professions; and

WHEREAS, his passion for Southern politics is evident as he is notorious for doing the best Eugene Talmadge impersonation in the South; and

WHEREAS, he is a past president of the Southern Political Science Association and the Georgia Political Science Association and a past chair of the Legislative Studies Group; and

WHEREAS, he is the author of 18 books and over 160 articles and book chapters; he is involved in numerous professional organization activities and serves on various editorial boards; and he provides reviews for numerous publications, books, and organizations; and

WHEREAS, he has made numerous guest appearances on radio and television shows, has served as an expert witness to congressmen and legislative committees, and has provided consultation to private companies, colleges, law firms, and attorneys general, performing all these activities while being actively involved in teaching and serving the University of Georgia community.

WHEREAS, his wife, Frances, and his two grown daughters, Beth and Rebecca, have been a constant base of support throughout his exemplary career.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Dr. Charles Bullock, III, for his outstanding and exemplary service to education, politics, his community, this state, and our nation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Charles Bullock, III.
