RESOLUTION
Commending
Reverend James Louis Bumpus; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend James Louis Bumpus was called to pastor the historic Tremont Temple
Missionary Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia, in 1998; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Memphis, Tennessee, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Religious
Studies from the University of Memphis and his Master of Divinity from the
Interdenominational Theological Center of Morehouse School of Religion in
Atlanta, Georgia, and presently is pursuing his doctorate at Mercer University
in Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Bumpus has served in the Christian ministry for over 20 years and prior
to becoming pastor of Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church served as youth
minister at the Greater Solid Rock Baptist Church in Riverdale, Georgia, and
served the West Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Senatobia, Mississippi, and
the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Collierville, Tennessee;
and
WHEREAS,
in addition to his pastoral ministry, Reverend Bumpus has served in various
positions throughout the Baptist association and state convention level;
and
WHEREAS,
he has been heavily involved in the middle Georgia community in great demand as
a facilitator, lecturer, and gospel preacher; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Bumpus is an accomplished musician, having toured Europe with the
United States Collegiate Wind Ensemble in the summer of 1983 and participated in
a continuing education tour in eastern France in the spring of 2006;
and
WHEREAS,
under his leadership, Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church purchased 28
acres of land and moved from its historic location in downtown Macon to the
Bloomfield Gardens Community;
and
WHEREAS, under his leadership and direction, the nonprofit organization Power Sources Unlimited, Inc., was founded to assist in bettering the community, the City of Macon, and the State of Georgia and ultimately the world.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
and recognize the outstanding ten-year leadership and dedication of Reverend
James Louis Bumpus to Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church of Macon,
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend James Louis
Bumpus.
