RESOLUTION
Recognizing
BlazeSports America, Georgia Division, for its outstanding service to the State
of Georgia and commending them on their selection to host the 2008 National Prep
Wheelchair Basketball Tournament; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
BlazeSports America, Georgia Division, advances the lives of youth and adults
with physical disabilities through sports and healthy lifestyles by providing
community based sports, recreation, and physical activity programs for children
and adults with physical disabilities and visual impairment; and
WHEREAS,
this fine organization serves children and adults with spinal cord injury,
spinal bifida, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, muscular dystrophy,
amputation, or visual impairment or blindness as well as other physical
disabilities and works to ensure that the quality, diversity, and availability
of these activities shall be equivalent to those afforded to youth and adults
without disability; and
WHEREAS,
this dedicated group continues to be the standard of excellence and the leading
community provider of high-quality sport and physical activities for Georgians
with physical disabilities, and their programs and services encourage healthy
lifestyles, foster independence and inclusion, and promote personal empowerment
throughout each individual̓s lifespan; and
WHEREAS,
by nurturing physical, psychological, and social well-being of children, youth,
and adults, BlazeSports America, Georgia Division, actively promotes inclusion
and personal development; and
WHEREAS,
its community focus helps young people discover their full potential, embrace
their individuality, and identify their unique capabilities and utilizes adults
with physical disabilities as mentors and role models; and
WHEREAS,
BlazeSports America, Georgia Division, has continually promoted equality,
visibility, and positive perception of people with physical disability through
sports; and
WHEREAS,
BlazeSports America, Georgia Division, directly provides teams, camps, clinics,
and technical assistance in Georgia and serves as the local organizing committee
for local, regional, and national competitions; and
WHEREAS,
BlazeSports America, Georgia Division, has been selected by the Junior Division
of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association to host the 2008 National Prep
Wheelchair Basketball Tournament on February 22-24, 2008, at Kennesaw State
University, in Kennesaw, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
the 2008 National Prep Wheelchair Basketball Tournament will bring together the
top 16 teams in the 13 and under age division of the National Wheelchair
Basketball Association to compete for the national championship;
and
WHEREAS,
the 2008 National Prep Wheelchair Basketball Tournament will hold a training
seminar for basketball officials to educate the attendees on the rule
differences of wheelchair basketball and successful completion of this course
will result in certification as a National Wheelchair Basketball Association
Official.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Senate that this body recognizes and commends
BlazeSports America, Georgia Division, for exemplary public service to children,
youth, and adults with physical disabilities and expresses gratitude for its
leadership in encouraging healthy lifestyles, fostering independence and
inclusion, and promoting empowerment among disabled and visually impaired
persons in the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to BlazeSports America,
Georgia Division.
