RESOLUTION
Commending
the Leadership Rome Program; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Leadership Rome Program is a seven month leadership training program for
high school sophomores and juniors from city, county, and private schools in
Rome and Floyd County; and
WHEREAS,
the program was established in 1983 with the purpose of identifying young
leaders and providing students with the training and motivation necessary to
face the challenges of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS,
through monthly sessions and continued volunteer involvement, the program aims
to heighten student awareness about public life and the importance of individual
participation; and
WHEREAS,
participation in Leadership Rome requires a substantial commitment of time and
energy, but the participants are enriched by the relationships they form with
each other as well as by the knowledge and understanding they gain from experts
on such topics as governmental organization, education, private enterprise,
natural resources, finance, and rural and urban development; and
WHEREAS,
the formal and informal exchange of ideas between the diverse participants in
Leadership Rome provides fresh insight, broadened perspective, and renewed
motivation.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the Leadership Rome Program for its sustained encouragement of Georgia's youth
towards the public enrichment of Rome and Floyd County.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Leadership Rome
Program.
