A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commemorating Wednesday, February 6, 2008, as "Ronald Reagan Day"; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan stands as one of the most influential presidents of our nation, touching the hearts and lives of millions; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan boldly accepted the helm of a country plagued by disillusionment and inspired a renewed optimism in the American people; and

WHEREAS, his defense policies helped bring about the demise of the Soviet Union, opening the gate of freedom for hundreds of millions of world citizens, and laid the groundwork for victory in the Gulf War; and

WHEREAS, America overwhelmingly voiced approval of his leadership when 49 of the 50 states reelected him president in 1984; and

WHEREAS, his economic policies resulted in our nation flourishing in one of the longest economic expansions in American history; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan's strong belief in the power and ability of individuals revitalized the American spirit.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor the 97th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's birth by recognizing Wednesday, February 6, 2008, as "Ronald Reagan Day."

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project.
