RESOLUTION
Recognizing
Savannah State University´s President Carlton E. Brown; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
President Brown was appointed by Chancellor Stephen Porter in 1997 with the
mandate to bring academic excellence to Savannah State University;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Brown received his B.A. in English Literature and his Ed. D. in
Multicultural Education from the University of Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Brown has surpassed expectations during his tenure at Savannah State and
under his leadership the university has seen a 48 percent increase in
enrollment; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Brown has worked steadfastly to increase the number of undergraduate and
graduate degrees at Savannah State, and under his presidency the university has
begun to offer new degrees in the fields of African Studies and the Visual and
Performing Arts; and
WHEREAS,
Savannah State University has become the first historically black college or
university and the first university in the state of Georgia, public or private,
to offer the Bachelor of Arts degree in Homeland Security and Emergency
Management; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Brown has directed the improvement of the quality of life for students at
Savannah State, directing the construction of the 660-bed University Village in
2001 as well as the Freshman Living and Learning Center in 2003;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Brown´s dedication to improving Savannah State University has raised
the quality of education for countless students.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Dr. Carlton E. Brown for his years of service to Savannah State
University.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Carlton E. Brown.
