A RESOLUTION


Recognizing Alderman Clifton Jones, Jr., and congratulating him upon the receipt of the prestigious Citation Award; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Beach High School Athletic Hall of Fame Association proudly salutes Alderman Clifton Jones, Jr., awarding him the prestigious Citation Award given for long and meritorious service in support of Beach High School athletics; and

WHEREAS, Alderman Jones is a 1950 graduate of Beach High School, where he was an honor student and extremely involved in student activities; and

WHEREAS, after a tour of duty in the United States Army, he completed his studies at then Georgia State College and upon graduation worked for the United States Postal Service where he rose to a supervisory position before retiring after 28 years; and

WHEREAS, over the years, he developed many hobbies and civic interests and became a strong community activist, devoting his time, talents, and energy to the Liberty City-Richfield Community Association, the NAACP Board, the Chatham County Democratic Committee, the American Legion Post 660, the Curtis V. Cooper Health Center, and many other civic groups; and

WHEREAS, he has been recognized, appreciated, and honored by many groups for his civic efforts involving Tatumville Lake, Tatumville Community Center, Liberty Community Center, Tremont Park basketball court, Wells Park renovation, the development of Ogeecheeton Park, and drainage system improvements throughout the fifth district, among others; and

WHEREAS, he is also a charter member of the Beach High School Athletic Hall of Fame where he has served with steadfastness and efficiency as the treasurer longer than anyone can recall; and
WHEREAS, Alderman Jones gives of himself tirelessly, unselfishly, and in a quiet and dignified manner, but when he speaks, everyone listens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
recognize the outstanding civic contributions of Alderman Clifton Jones, Jr., and congratulate him upon his receipt of the prestigious Citation Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Alderman Clifton Jones, Jr.
