A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the University of West Georgia Cheerleading Teams; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
in 2002 and 2003, the West Georgia Wolves´ cheer program rose to national
prominence, winning back-to-back UCA Division II National Championships, and as
they prepared for the 2007 nationals, many wondered if the university´s
program could match its past accomplishments; and
WHEREAS,
at the 2007 nationals, West Georgia not only equaled its previous successes, but
the Wolves´ program exceeded all expectations by bringing home two national
titles and establishing itself as a national powerhouse to be reckoned with;
and
WHEREAS,
under the direction of head coach Sherry Cooney and assistant coach John Morgan,
the coed cheer squad established its reputation and place as a national dynasty
by winning its sixth straight UCA Division II Championship as the Wolves´
squad out-hustled and outshone an impressive crop of competitors in the
competition finals; and
WHEREAS,
West Georgia´s championship in the coed competition was not its first title
of the weekend, as a gifted young West Georgia all-girls team won its third
national title in the event; and
WHEREAS,
coed squad team members are Candice Abney, Cory Brown, Eric Deal, Gennah Duclo,
Gennal Duclo, David Forrest, Michael Kirby, Tommy Lane, Sarah Masters, Ryan
McKinnon, Amber Melear, Brittany Moss, Brian Nichols, Sarah Roberts, Stephanie
Shouse, and John Tuggle; and
WHEREAS,
the all-girls squad consists of Erica Baldwin, Ciara Carter, Lindsay Evanson,
Ashley Hardin, Hollis Johnson, Megan Johnson, Dana Jones, Mallory Jones, Amy
Phillips, Kristi Phillips, Peggy "Amanda" Reeves, Megan Sparks, Samantha
Stevenson, Ashley Stone, Kristin Urquhart, Nicollette Williams, Amy Wood, and
Ashley Zimmerman, and all members of each team displayed a level of competitive
spirit that has rarely been equaled.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the University of West Georgia Cheerleading Teams on their dominating win of
the Division II All-Girl Cheerleading Competition and Coed Cheerleading
Competition.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the University of West
Georgia cheerleading teams and their coaches.
