RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Major Demitra L. Williamson; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Major Demitra L. Williamson of Columbus, Georgia, is a celebrated graduate of
the United States Military Academy at West Point; and
WHEREAS,
she was born in North Carolina and graduated from Union High School in Columbus,
North Carolina, where she was active in track, the rifle team, and the drill
team and served as a member of the Beta Club and as class vice president;
and
WHEREAS,
as an officer in the United States Army, she is an instructor at the Basic
Officer Leader Course-Phase II at Fort Benning, and she has served as a
commander of a deployed communications unit consisting of 90 soldiers and $22
million of equipment; and
WHEREAS,
she has traveled around the world, visiting several countries in Asia, and her
future goal is to retire from the military and start her own business in
investing; and
WHEREAS,
she is the esteemed daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Williamson, the sister of
Mrs. Vonita Monk Buchanan and Mr. Daniel Williamson II, and the sister-in-law of
Mr. Edgar Buchanan; and
WHEREAS,
as she has commanded the admiration of her fellow Georgians, Major Demitra L.
Williamson has brought honor to her family, friends, neighbors, the State of
Georgia, and the United States of America.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the inspiring life and career of Major Demitra L. Williamson, express gratitude
for her outstanding service in the United States armed forces, and extend to her
their sincerest best wishes for her future health and success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Major Demitra L.
Williamson.
