RESOLUTION
Recognizing
May, 2007, as "Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month" in Georgia, as proclaimed by
Governor Sonny Perdue on April 25, in order to increase public awareness about
motorcycles and to encourage their safe and proper use among motorcycle riders;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
motorcycles are efficient vehicles that reduce fuel consumption, ease parking
shortages and traffic congestion, and are becoming an increasingly popular
option for commuting, tourism, and recreational purposes; and
WHEREAS,
motorcycles provide a unique vantage point from which to enjoy Georgia's
natural, historical, and cultural resources, and motorcycle based tourism
contributes greatly to this state's economy; and
WHEREAS,
increased awareness of safe driving procedures can improve safety and reduce
injuries and fatalities for operators of all motor vehicles, including
motorcycles; and
WHEREAS,
several laudable organizations are committed to increasing the safe operation of
motorcycles by promoting rider safety education programs and by providing safety
instruction for Georgia's citizens.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
Governor Perdue in recognizing the month of May, 2007, as "Motorcycle Safety
Awareness Month" in Georgia in order to increase public awareness about
motorcycles and to encourage their safe and proper use among motorcycle
riders.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ed "Yankee" Andross of
ABATE of Georgia, Inc.
