A RESOLUTION


Commending Kayla Chaney; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Kayla Chaney is the state recipient of the 2006 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), the first program of its type in the nation to honor outstanding students in postsecondary technical colleges; and

WHEREAS, GOAL brings together Georgia´s business, government, and industry leaders with the state´s technical colleges to celebrate technical education´s vital impact on Georgia´s work force, prosperity, and future; and

WHEREAS, for more than 35 years, the GOAL program has served as an excellent example of a true partnership among business, industry, and education; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Chaney was selected from among 37 local technical college GOAL winners who have demonstrated excellent academic and leadership ability at their respective technical colleges; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Chaney is a Radiologic Technology student from Okefenokee Technical College who has volunteered for and been a member of organizations such as the local food bank, the 4-H Pet Therapy program, a local swim program for children with disabilities, and her local HOPE Center; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Chaney and her family are very active in the First Assembly of God church where she serves as a leader of their Christian ambassadors; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Chaney will serve as an ambassador for technical education in Georgia, representing more than 155,000 students benefiting from technical education programs throughout the state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Kayla Chaney for her outstanding achievements and her efforts to promote technical education in Georgia and convey their congratulations.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Kayla Chaney.
