A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Helen Kortum for her years of effort to improve the quality of life for many citizens of Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Helen Kortum is a distinguished Georgian and an outstanding citizen of this state who has dedicated her amazing talents, skills, and experience to assisting others and has significantly improved the quality of life for many of her fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, she has demonstrated her dedication to her community and this state through her service as a mentor at the HOPE Center, a nonprofit pregnancy resource center in Woodstock, Georgia, that meets the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of their clients; and

WHEREAS, while the HOPE Center relies heavily on trained volunteers like Helen Kortum to assist the clients in myriad ways, Helen´s service is especially vital as acknowledged by her being honored with the Mother of Israel Award for best exemplifying the heart of the HOPE Center; and

WHEREAS, Helen Kortum is a servant of God, serving as a spokesperson for the HOPE Center in her church and her community while exhibiting compassion and radiating joy and peace; and

WHEREAS, she also leads a Bible study once a month for Devereux Georgia, a treatment facility for young people, and works at Scottrade, a discount brokerage firm, as a financial office assistant; and

WHEREAS, Helen Kortum has an amazing energy, a great sense of civic responsibility, and an enthusiasm about helping others which sets an example for all of us as to how we should strive each day to help others make a better life for themselves.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in recognizing and commending Helen Kortum for her years of volunteer service which have greatly improved the quality of life for so many citizens of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Helen Kortum.
