RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Lieutenant Colonel Roy W. Wood; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Lieutenant Colonel Roy W. Wood was born and raised in Georgia, and is currently
serving full time in the Georgia Army National Guard in Atlanta, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
in March of 2005, Lieutenant Colonel Wood was mobilized with the 48th Brigade
Combat Team to the war in Southern Baghdad to serve as the brigade´s
logistics officer; and
WHEREAS,
as the logistics officer for the 48th Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Wood ensured
that 4,500 soldiers were properly moved by air and sea to Kuwait and Iraq,
received all necessities to perform their mission, and maintained the material
readiness of over $600 million worth of equipment in the brigade inventory;
and
WHEREAS,
thanks to the hard work and efforts of Lieutenant Colonel Wood, the
brigade´s mission in the war zone commonly referred to as the "Triangle of
Death" was successfully supported; and
WHEREAS,
this country owes a tremendous debt of gratitude for the service of Lieutenant
Colonel Roy W. Wood and the many other soldiers who, at great sacrifice to
themselves and their families, serve the cause of American freedom;
and
WHEREAS,
his dedication to his community is further demonstrated by his service here at
home, including his tremendous assistance in refurbishing the Newnan Armory and
in the activation of the 201st Supply and Service Battalion, and his many years
of volunteering to coach Little League Baseball in the Sharpsburg, Georgia,
area; and
WHEREAS,
Roy Wood is also a devoted husband of 25 years to his lovely wife Christy Wood,
and a loving father to their son Chase;
and
WHEREAS, this exceptional soldier exhibits outstanding leadership, patriotism, courage, and dedication in his service to our nation, and the State of Georgia takes great pride in the accomplishments of this outstanding National Guardsman.
WHEREAS, this exceptional soldier exhibits outstanding leadership, patriotism, courage, and dedication in his service to our nation, and the State of Georgia takes great pride in the accomplishments of this outstanding National Guardsman.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that each and every member of this body
hereby commends Lieutenant Colonel Roy W. Wood and expresses their sincere
appreciation for his service, contributions, and sacrifices for our military and
the citizens of this State and of the United States.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lieutenant Colonel Roy W.
Wood.
