RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending outstanding citizen Cameron Smoak; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Cameron Smoak has selflessly devoted more than 30 years of service to the
citizens of this state, serving with the Georgia Department of Agriculture since
1976; and
WHEREAS,
he is a lifelong resident of Georgia, graduating from Griffin High School,
receiving his business administration degree from the University of Georgia, and
honorably serving his country in the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS,
in 1995 this exemplary public servant was appointed Assistant Commissioner for
the Department of Agriculture, and in this position he provided the citizens of
Georgia invaluable services, including strengthening the field force's training
requirements, initiating an automated data collection system, helping to form
the Georgia Public Health Team charged to protect Georgia consumers, and
establishing the intern program for graduate students; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Smoak has always gone above and beyond the call of duty as demonstrated by
his efforts in coordinating regional and national events and supporting food
safety efforts for the 1996 Olympics and the 2004 G8 Summit, forming a crisis
response team for emergency relief efforts during the 1994 floods, and providing
support to the General Assembly as a member of the department's legislative
liaison team; and
WHEREAS,
his commitment to his community is further demonstrated by his leadership role
as president of the Association of Food and Drug Officials of the Southern
States, president of the Association of Food and Drug Officials, member of the
Association of Food and Drug Officials' Seafood HACCP Training Program
Certification Committee, and his more than two decades of services as a Boy
Scouts of America Leader; and
WHEREAS,
Cameron Smoak is a current resident of Madison, Georgia, where he is a faithful
member of Madison Baptist Church, a devoted husband to his wife, Debbie, and
loving father to their three children; and
WHEREAS,
he has provided the citizens of the State of Georgia an invaluable service and
has garnered the respect and admiration of his peers and the public, and it is
therefore both fitting and proper that he be appropriately recognized and
honored.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body
wholeheartedly commend Mr. Cameron Smoak for his outstanding service to the
public as the Assistant Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Agriculture
and wish him continued success in the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Cameron Smoak.
