RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Douglas Hodge; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Douglas Hodge is a man of many talents: he is a published author, an
accomplished actor and producer, and a retired United States Army Master
Sergeant; and
WHEREAS,
during his military career, he was known as an officer who not only looked out
for his soldiers but also required each of them to give their full measure of
dedication, and he has recruited over 400 young people into military service;
and
WHEREAS,
as an actor, Doug has performed in a number of film productions such as
Stomp The
Yard,
Drum
Line,
Unshackled,
and Remember
the Titans; television programs such as
"Mama Flora's Family," "Selma Lord Selma," and "Savannah"; and television
commercials for such sponsors as Mayfield Dairy, the United States Army, Delta,
IBM, Ford Motors, and CNN; and has recently appeared as "The Professor" in the
memorable "Thanks A Million" commercial for the Georgia Lottery;
and
WHEREAS,
he has been instrumental in organizing a number of community events and
benefits, including acting workshops at Clayton State University, A Little Bit
of Cabaret at Fort McPherson, the Spring Affair Show, the Annual Hodge Family
Memorial Day Celebration, and the Foster Children's Christmas Party, an event
that provided individual gifts for over 100 foster children; and
WHEREAS,
he is a gifted teacher who takes great pleasure in helping other people to grow
beyond their personal barriers and realize their full potential in all of their
endeavors; and
WHEREAS,
despite the fact that Doug learned to read at the late age of 12, he is a
world-class speaker and an eloquent poet and has authored a number of books,
including Book
of Life,
Visions,
and
Generations;
and
WHEREAS,
he was selected in 1995 to be included in the "Who's Who Worldwide" registry;
and
WHEREAS,
he is lovingly married to Barbara Gibbs Hodge, and the two are indispensable
pillars of the community; and
WHEREAS,
throughout his amazing life, Douglas Hodge has commanded the esteem of his
fellow Americans, and his many outstanding accomplishments have brought honor to
his family, colleagues, this state, and the United States.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to recognize the inspirational life of Mr. Douglas Hodge, commend his
extensive service to Georgia and the United States, and extend to him their
sincerest best wishes for a healthy and fulfilling future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Douglas Hodge.
