A RESOLUTION


Commending Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation´s security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm´s way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, this extraordinary man has diligently and conscientiously served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army where he has served as the Commander, First U.S. Army, Fort Gillem since July 15, 2004, and Commander, Joint Task Force-Katrina, in which capacity he led the U.S. Department of Defense Response to Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita; and

WHEREAS, he is affectionately known as the "Ragin' Cajun," he is a soldier's soldier and his heroism, valor, and ability have been recognized by his being awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the 2005 Omar N. Bradley "Spirit of Independence Award"; and

WHEREAS, his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY SENATE that the members of this body commend Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his country and state and extend to his family their most profound and sincere appreciation for him and for all members of the United States military who stand ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré.
