A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
Bishop Miles Edward Fowler on a lifetime of outstanding accomplishments; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Bishop Fowler is the youngest child of the late Bishop Willie and Missionary
Mattie Lou Fowler; and
WHEREAS,
he is a native of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and he was educated in the DeKalb
County School System, graduating with honors from Hamilton High School as
Salutatorian; and
WHEREAS,
he declined a scholarship to attend Morris Brown College, opting instead to
enlist in the United States Air Force and while serving in the Air Force, he
attended military technical school in San Antonio, Texas; and
WHEREAS,
later, Bishop Fowler attended and graduated from the Interdenominational
Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he owned and operated Fowler Construction Company for 18 years prior to becoming
a full-time pastor at Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church in 1977; and
WHEREAS,
during his pastorate, the church membership has grown from approximately 300 in
membership to over 1,500, and the church has relocated from three acres to 28
acres, including an ultra-modern Worship Center, Family Life Center, and
recently completed administration building; and
WHEREAS,
Bishop Fowler is the recipient of numerous civic and religious awards, and he
received the "Who's Who in Georgia" Award for his outstanding service in the
community; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to serving as chaplain for the DeKalb County Jail, he is a member
of the Sheriff's Steering Committee; and
WHEREAS,
in 2002, God inspired Bishop Fowler to write "End Time Revelation," a book which
chronicles events that will occur on Earth and in Heaven after the Rapture;
and
WHEREAS,
he has ministered to the Georgia General Assembly, has been profiled in the
Atlanta Journal &
Constitution and other community
publications, and has appeared on numerous radio and television programs; and
WHEREAS,
as a consultant to the Beulah Heights Theological School, he is a spiritual
leader for more than 30 ministers of the Gospel, and in 2003, Bishop Fowler
received his Honorary Doctoral Degree of Divinity from Beulah Heights Bible
College; and
WHEREAS,
he is married to Helen Riley Fowler, also a native of DeKalb County, and they
are the proud parents of three daughters and one son and the proud grandparents
of two granddaughters and four grandsons; and
WHEREAS,
Bishop Fowler has dedicated his life to serving his church and his community,
and it is appropriate to honor him for the outstanding example of leadership he
has shown for all that follow in his footsteps.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that Bishop Miles Edward Fowler is
hereby honored for his life of service to his church and community as a pastor,
spiritual leader, community advocate, author, spouse, father, and
grandfather.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Bishop Miles Edward
Fowler.
