A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Sylvia Wygoda; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Sylvia Wygoda serves the State of Georgia as the Executive Director and Chair Emeritus of the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Wygoda has served the State of Georgia in the field of Holocaust education since 1981, teaching Georgia students, teachers, and citizens concerning the dangers of unchecked hate and prejudice and carrying educational programs and exhibits across the State of Georgia concerning the meaning of good citizenship and character education; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Wygoda serves as the chief spokesperson for Holocaust education for the State of Georgia and as the Commission's chief legislative liaison to the Georgia General Assembly, public agencies, private sector organizations, and the public and conducts the official State of Georgia Annual Holocaust Observance; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Wygoda was chosen by the Federal Republic of Germany as one of only five individuals from the United States of America to be its invited guest as part of a small international delegation to the opening of the office of the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research; and

WHEREAS, German Consul General, the Honorable Lutz Hermann Görgens, Ph.D., personally presented the invitation to Ms. Wygoda to attend a week-long program in Berlin on Holocaust education, history and human rights, and international humanitarian cooperation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend Sylvia Wygoda for her long history of service to this state and nation and extend to her their best wishes for continued success and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Sylvia Wygoda.
