RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge and
Georgia National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Michael B. "Mike" Fordham; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Lieutenant Colonel Michael B. Fordham served two years in the United States
Marine Corps, after which he returned to his native Dublin, Georgia, where he
began his law enforcement career in 1978, as a patrolman with the East Dublin
Police Department; and
WHEREAS,
in 1979, he joined the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) as an undercover
narcotics agent, serving most of his time on the front lines in the battle
against illegal drugs; and
WHEREAS,
he later helped establish the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program in
Georgia and in 1995, he was elected President of the National DARE Officers
Association; and
WHEREAS,
while with the GBI, he furthered his dedication to public service by joining the
Georgia National Guard in 1990, rising to his present rank of Lieutenant
Colonel; and
WHEREAS,
he took a military leave of absence from the GBI to serve with his National
Guard unit in Bosnia in 2001, and in Iraq from July 2005 to July 2006;
and
WHEREAS,
in April 2008, he will take another military leave of absence for a tour of duty
overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to plan for the mobilization
to Afghanistan of the Georgia Army National Guard's 48th Brigade;
and
WHEREAS,
with his dedication to fighting crime with the GBI and serving his state and
nation with the Georgia National Guard, Mike Fordham continues to be a devoted
husband to his lovely wife, Shirley, and a doting father to their son, Michael;
and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize with particularity the outstanding accomplishments of this dedicated lawman and military officer.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to recognize Lieutenant Colonel Michael B. "Mike" Fordham and commend
him for his exemplary service to the state and the nation.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lieutenant Colonel Michael
B. "Mike" Fordham.
