RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Ms. Margaret "Maggie" F. Garrett; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Garrett served as Legislative Director for the American Civil Liberties
Union of Georgia (ACLU) from 2002 until 2007; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Garrett is a proud graduate of Hamilton College and the George Washington
University Law School; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Garrett represented the ACLU as its lobbyist at the Georgia General Assembly
during the legislative sessions from 2003 through 2007; and
WHEREAS,
the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution is the foundation for our
most sacred rights; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Garrett ably advocated to protect the Bill of Rights for five sessions at
the Georgia General Assembly; and
WHEREAS,
while members of this body may not have always agreed with the positions of the
ACLU, we always appreciated the manner in which Ms. Garrett contributed to the
legislative process by sharing her vast knowledge of Constitutional law;
and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Garrett worked effectively, enthusiastically, and energetically with members
of this body from both sides of the aisle; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Garrett worked as diligently to preserve a state employee´s right to
say "Merry Christmas" as she did to maintain the separation between church and
state; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Garrett personified the diligence, integrity, and cheerful disposition that
all lobbyists should strive to achieve;
and
WHEREAS Ms. Garrett now lives happily in Washington, D.C. with her dog, Atticus; and

WHEREAS,
this body misses Ms. Garrett´s contributions to the legislative process and
looks forward to her speedy return to the State of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Ms. Margaret "Maggie" F. Garrett and commend her for her outstanding service to
the American Civil Liberties Union, her community, and this state.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Margaret "Maggie" F.
Garrett.
