RESOLUTION
Commending
the Kendrick High School Lady Cherokees varsity basketball team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Kendrick High School Lady Cherokees varsity basketball team has established
and maintained a proud tradition of excellence in girls basketball with equal
emphases on character and academics; and
WHEREAS,
the Lady Cherokees pulled off a doubly historic feat when they capped off a
perfect season with a 79-67 triumph over Carrollton and in doing so became the
first girls basketball team ever to win a state championship in the
Columbus-Phenix City area; and
WHEREAS,
the Lady Cherokees won from start to finish to compile a dazzling 32-0 record,
giving the seniors on the team a four-year record of 121-5; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and
spirit of each member of the team; their superb offensive and defensive talents;
and the astute direction of Coach Sterling Hicks; and
WHEREAS,
this magnificent team performed with precision during the season and earned its
well-deserved reputation for high standards of athletic
achievement.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Coach Sterling Hicks and the Kendrick High School Lady Cherokees varsity
basketball team for its unparalleled achievements and extend to them best wishes
for the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Kendrick High School
Lady Cherokees varsity basketball team.
