RESOLUTION
Commending
Coach Jim Bailey; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
it all began in Bremen, Georgia, in the early 1970's when a young Jim Bailey
wrestled in the 185 pound division for Bremen High School; and
WHEREAS,
he performed well on the mats, placing third in the 1973 state meets, and fell
in love with the sport; and
WHEREAS,
he went on to wrestle for three seasons with the University of Georgia but found
his greatest success as a coach; and
WHEREAS,
after college he worked for several school systems in south Georgia, none of
them with a wrestling program; and
WHEREAS,
he finally got a chance to coach wrestling when he became an assistant at
Fayette County in the mid-1980's; and
WHEREAS,
he took over as head coach in 1989 and quickly turned Fayette County into one of
the top programs, and with the four victories his Tigers secured recently in
Area 2-AAAA duals tournament, it pushed his career wins to 302; and
WHEREAS,
the 300 win milestone turns heads in wrestling circles because to reach 300, a
coach must consistently win over a long period of time, and Coach Bailey's teams
have almost always finished in the state's top 15, capturing four region titles
and placing dozens of wrestlers in the high rounds of state championship
tournaments; and
WHEREAS,
one of the highlights of his coaching career was coaching his sons, Jonathan and
Jarrod; and
WHEREAS,
Coach Bailey has exerted a positive influence on thousands of young athletes
over the span of his career; and
WHEREAS,
it is only right and proper that this indefatigable champion for the youth of
his community be recognized and commended.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
and commend Coach Jim Bailey for his many contributions to his community and the
state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Jim Bailey.
