A RESOLUTION


Expressing regret at the passing of Dr. Zachary L. Voelz; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on February 24, 2008, Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Dr. Zachary L. Voelz; and

WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his many years of service as an outstanding surgeon and doctor; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Voelz published many articles to the medical literature and was a pioneer of the Robotic Surgery Program at Northside Hospital-Cherokee and a member of Georgia Urology, Atlanta's premier urological group; and

WHEREAS, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude in 1996 from the University of Michigan and obtained his medical degree from there in 2000, and he went on to train in urological surgery at Emory University School of Medicine; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community earned him the respect and admiration of his patients, colleagues, and associates; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished man gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and he possessed the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Dr. Zachary L. Voelz.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr. Zachary L. Voelz.
