A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and honoring the life of Ms. Sara González; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens when
Ms. Sara González passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2008;
and
WHEREAS,
Ms. González was the President and CEO of the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce, and, under her leadership, it grew in endowment and membership from
172 members in 1996 to nearly 1,500 members in 2007; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. González established the Hispanic American Center for Economic
Development, the Argentine-American Chamber of Commerce, the Dominican-American
Chamber of Commerce, and the Ecuadorian-American Chamber of Commerce;
and
WHEREAS,
she was appointed to the board of directors of Hemisphere, Inc., and to the
Latino Commission for a New Georgia by Governor Sonny Perdue, and she also was
on the organizing committee for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games;
and
WHEREAS,
in 2007, she received the Purpose Prize for her creative and effective work to
tackle some of the nation's most pressing problems, and her work has been
recognized by local and national press and won her the appreciation of community
groups representing both geographic and ethnic communities; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. González's passion for the betterment of the Hispanic community, as
well as the Atlanta community, was unmatched; and
WHEREAS,
she diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community, this state, and the
nation, as evidenced dramatically by her many years of superlative service;
and
WHEREAS, this singular woman was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body express
their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Ms. Sara González
and commend her for a lifetime of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated
public service.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Ms. Sara
González.
