A
RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Police Officer Ricky Bryant, Jr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia has lost one of its finest and most distinguished young
individuals with the untimely passing of Police Officer Ricky Bryant, Jr.;
and
WHEREAS,
while the loss of any loved one is a terrible event, the loss of this young man
is especially tragic, as he died in the line of duty on January 16, 2008;
and
WHEREAS,
Officer Bryant was born in New York and after graduation in 1999 from
Gates-Chili High School, he joined the Marines, served in Iraq, and left the
Marine Corps as a Corporal after four years; and
WHEREAS,
Officer Bryant married his wife, Latoya, in 2001 and they had four children,
ages ranging between two and ten; and
WHEREAS,
in 2005 he moved his family to Atlanta and joined the DeKalb County Police
Department; and
WHEREAS,
he is widely remembered by his friends and family as a person who was the
happiest when serving and protecting others; and
WHEREAS,
his unfortunate departure has left scars upon the hearts of grieving friends,
family, and fellow police officers in Georgia and New York.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together in honoring the memory of Police Officer Ricky Bryant, Jr., and
extending the deepest and most sincere condolences to his family and
friends.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Police
Officer Ricky Bryant, Jr.
