A RESOLUTION


Commending Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Hudson is the founder of Be Someone, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hudson was recently featured on ABC's Good Morning America Weekend Edition with anchors Bill Weir and Kate Snow; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hudson, through Be Someone, Inc., has made national headlines for teaching a chess program to at-risk children; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hudson's message to the children he teaches is "Heads up, Pants up, Grades up! Prevention is better than detention"; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hudson has reached more than 20,000 children in 15 states as he continues towards his goal of reaching one million children before 2012; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hudson's leadership skills and drive to help others was developed, in part, during his time serving in the United State Air Force and the Alabama State Patrol.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Orrin "Checkmate" Hudson and his amazing work with at-risk children through his Be Someone, Inc., chess program.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Orrin Hudson.
