RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and expressing appreciation to Dennis O. Trudeau for his lifetime of military
and public service; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Dennis O. Trudeau is a distinguished Georgian and a great example of what
has been so aptly called "The Greatest Generation"; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Trudeau was born in Stevens, Minnesota, on June 1, 1925, and at the age of
17 he enlisted in the Canadian Army; volunteered as a paratrooper; and went on
to jump into combat in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, where he was captured,
wounded, and interned in a German POW camp until his liberation in 1945;
and
WHEREAS,
following the war he served with great ability and distinction in the United
States Army for more than 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant and then
working in a variety of capacities at the U.S. Army Signal School at Fort
Gordon; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to his noble career in the military, Mr. Trudeau also served his
adopted community in Georgia as the Mayor of the City of Grovetown for 20 years
prior to his recent retirement, also having served as a past president of the
Georgia Municipal Association; and he is an admired and beloved leader both in
Grovetown and among his colleagues in municipal government throughout the state;
and
WHEREAS,
it is fitting and proper that this body express its recognition and appreciation
of this great Georgian.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body hereby heartily thanks
Dennis O. Trudeau for his many invaluable contributions to his nation and to the
City of Grovetown and the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Dennis O. Trudeau
