The Senate Judiciary Committee offered the following substitute to SB 50:

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Code Section 45-17-2 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to qualifications for notaries, so as to provide that a notary shall be a legal resident of the United States; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Code Section 45-17-2 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to qualifications for notaries, is amended by revising subsection (a) as follows:
"(a) Any individual applying for appointment to be a notary public must be:
(1) At least 18 years old;
(2) A legal resident of the United States;
(3) A resident of this state;
(3)(4) A resident of the county from which such individual is appointed; and
(4)(5) Able to read and write the English language."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
