BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Article 1 of Chapter 2 of Title 8 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to building requirements in general, so as to require that
certain state licensed facilities and public buildings in which young children
are invited, regularly permitted, or receiving services shall be constructed or
refitted to include certain child safety outlets, covers, or plugs; to provide a
date for compliance; to provide for applicability; to provide for related
matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Article
1 of Chapter 2 of Title 8 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to
building requirements in general, is amended by adding a new part to read as
follows:
"Part
1A
8-2-10.
All
state licensed facilities and public buildings in which young children are
invited or regularly permitted or in which they receive services shall be
subject to the requirements of this Code section. Each such building or
facility shall be constructed or retrofitted to include child safety outlets,
child safe outlet covers, or removable outlet safety plugs that are larger than
1 3/4 inches in diameter, ventilated, and installed and maintained in all
electrical outlets that are located in any unlocked or accessible area of such
facility or building when not in use in such facility or building. Any state
licensed facility or public building constructed prior to July 1, 2007, shall
have until July 1, 2009, to comply with this Code section. Any state licensed
facility or public building constructed on or after July 1, 2007, or any
expansion of an existing state licensed facility or public building, shall
comply with this Code section as part of the construction of such facility or
building or any such expansion."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
