A RESOLUTION


Congratulating the University of Georgia men's tennis team on winning the 2006 Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament championships; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Bulldogs won the 2006 Southeastern Conference regular season championship; and

WHEREAS, the Bulldogs won the 2006 Southeastern Conference Tournament championship; and

WHEREAS, the Bulldogs were the ITA Team Indoor National Champions for the first time in the history of the program; and

WHEREAS, Luis Flores and Matic Omerzel won the Southeastern Conference indoor doubles championship; and

WHEREAS, three of the team members were named All-Americans: John Isner, Luis Flores, and Antonio Ruiz; and

WHEREAS, John Isner was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team; and

WHEREAS, Manuel Diaz was named the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth time; and

WHEREAS, six players were named to the All-Southeastern Conference Team: John Isner, Luis Flores, Antonio Ruiz, Matic Omerzel, Colin Purcell, and Strahinja Bobusic; and

WHEREAS, Georgia has won 23 Southeastern Conference regular season team titles, the most of any team in the conference; and

WHEREAS, Georgia has won six Southeastern Conference Team Tournament titles, the most of any team in the conference; and

WHEREAS, the Bulldogs finished the season ranked No. 2 in the nation after finishing as the runner up in the NCAA tournament; and

WHEREAS, Georgia went undefeated in the regular season for the first time in team history, finishing with an overall record of 30-1, with their only loss coming in the finals of the NCAA tournament; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of this team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability and the dedication and hard work of each member of the team.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the University of Georgia men's tennis team for its unparalleled achievements and extend their sincerest best wishes for its continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Manuel Diaz.
