RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and congratulating Jonathan Peacock on being awarded the 2007 Prudential Spirit
of Community Award; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Jonathan Peacock, an esteemed resident of Alma, Georgia, and a student at Bacon
County Middle School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer
service by receiving a 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Award;
and
WHEREAS,
this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with
the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers
across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to their
communities; and
WHEREAS,
Jonathan earned this award by giving generously of his time and energy to his
community, spending three months planning and preparing a time capsule to help
celebrate Alma's centennial in 2006; and
WHEREAS,
Jonathan took on a number of responsibilities during his project, including
collecting time capsule materials, delivering presentations, obtaining $1,000 in
funds for an aluminum capsule canister and advertisement space in a local
newspaper, and organizing a ceremony to bury the capsule in the town's
centennial square; and
WHEREAS,
the success of the State of Georgia, the strength of our communities, and the
overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the
dedication of young people like Jonathan Peacock who use their considerable
talents to serve others.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor and congratulate Jonathan Peacock as a recipient of a Prudential
Spirit of Community Award, recognize his outstanding record of volunteer
service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and extend best wishes for his
continued success and fulfillment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Jonathan Peacock.
