A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Janie Broome, Joey Walker, Marilyn Waters, Helen Brantley, Serge Strickland, and Billy Cochran for their outstanding service to Pierce County, Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Pierce County, Georgia, have undertaken the restoration of the Pierce County Courthouse at Blackshear; and

WHEREAS, the board determined that it was not feasible for the taxpayers to pay for a fountain to be located on the courthouse grounds; and

WHEREAS, a group of interested Pierce County citizens, namely Janie Broome, Joey Walker, Marilyn Waters, Helen Brantley, Serge Strickland, and Billy Cochran, determined that the restoration of the courthouse would not be complete without a fountain on the courthouse grounds; and

WHEREAS, this group of individuals on their own initiative proceeded with a project to sell commemorative bricks to pay for said fountain; and

WHEREAS, the sale of the commemorative bricks successfully funded the project; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished group be recognized for their service to Pierce County in obtaining funding for such an admirable and beneficial project.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Janie Broome, Joey Walker, Marilyn Waters, Helen Brantley, Serge Strickland, and Billy Cochran for their dedication and unselfish public service to the citizens of Pierce County.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Janie Broome, Joey Walker, Marilyn Waters, Helen Brantley, Serge Strickland, and Billy Cochran.
