A RESOLUTION


Honoring and remembering the life of Richard Dwight Langley; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia lost one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Richard Dwight Langley on March 24, 2007; and

WHEREAS, he was the son of the late William W. and Frances Cornelia Langley; and

WHEREAS, he was a 1963 graduate of Murphy High School and a 1968 graduate of Georgia State College; and

WHEREAS, a sports enthusiast and avid golfer, Dwight´s greatest love was his family, a cherished circle of friends, and their beloved dogs Lily and Tucker; and

WHEREAS, Dwight's love of sports greatly assisted him in his success as the parks and recreation director of Rockdale County for 25 years, enjoying umpiring softball games on the side; and

WHEREAS, Dwight took great pleasure in telling stories of his travels, but nothing gave him more pleasure than telling stories about his son, Dax, and of his exploits in football and golf; and

WHEREAS, he was a long-time member of Haven Fellowship Church; and

WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rebecca (Becky) Langley; one son, Dax Langley and his wife Valerie, of Athens; two brothers, Gary Langley and his wife Crafton, of Atlanta, and Dan Langley, of Lawrenceville; brother-in-law Dr. David S. Gooden and his wife, Jeanie, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; mother-in-law Sarah Gooden, of Conyers; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews; and

WHEREAS, he was a true patriarch to his children, family, and friends and will be dearly missed; and it is fitting and proper that we extend sympathy to his family and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Richard Dwight Langley and extend their most sincere condolences to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Richard Dwight Langley.
