A RESOLUTION


Honoring and remembering the life of Mr. Thomas Everette McLeod; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia has lost one of its most esteemed citizens with the passing of Mr. Thomas Everette McLeod on Wednesday morning, February 7, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McLeod was a noted former police officer, businessman, and tireless servant of the community of Americus, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he was born in Fitzgerald on December 1, 1929, to the late Thomas Everette McLeod, Sr., and Sadie Victoria Davis McLeod and was a descendant of Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McLeod was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and was an athlete on the football, track, and baseball teams, as well as a member of the band; and

WHEREAS, he attended Georgia Southwestern College and the University of Georgia and was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served in the roles of deacon, elder, Sunday school superintendent, and chairman of the board; and

WHEREAS, he served nobly as a police officer of the Americus Police Department and was the manager of the Americus Hatchery, a retiree of the Sumter County School System, a member of the national guard, serving as master sergeant, and a member of the Masonic Lodge 13 of Americus, where he previously served as worshipful master; and

WHEREAS, he was an avid sportsman and hunter, devoted to the conservation of wildlife and the development of young hunters; and

WHEREAS, his unshakable devotion to his community was only surpassed by his love for his family, and he was the best dad four girls could ever have; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McLeod leaves behind his beloved wife, Annette Player McLeod; four daughters, Victoria Kay McLeod Flom, Tommie Anne McLeod, Sadie McLeod Taylor, and Naomi McLeod Mims; six grandchildren, Jessica Shantha, Erica Shantha, Lauren Shantha, Candace Mims, Margaret McLeod Taylor, and Thomas Douglas McLeod Mims; six step-grandchildren; and a host of relatives, colleagues, and neighbors; and

WHEREAS, he commanded the esteem of his fellow Georgians, and his memory will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring and remembering the outstanding life of Mr. Thomas Everette McLeod and in recognizing his extensive contributions to the community of Americus, the State of Georgia, and the United States of America.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Thomas Everette McLeod.
