A RESOLUTION


Commending Emily Schunior; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, with extraordinary diligence and clarity of vision, Emily Schunior served the Working Families Caucus as the administrative and project leader during the 2006 legislative session; and

WHEREAS, after working eight years for Accenture, Emily is currently a senior manager of the talent development department at EarthLink, and

WHEREAS, Emily became involved in metro Atlanta politics during the excitement of the 2004 Presidential election season; and in 2005, her leadership qualities led to her election to a post seat in the Fulton County Democratic Party and as the President of the Young Democrats of Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, today, she continues to serve the community on the Board of Governors for the Red Clay Democrats and is serving her second term as President of the Young Democrats of Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, Emily proudly follows in the footsteps of her parents, Charles Schunior and Anne Carter, who were active participants in Civil Rights work and labor organizing during the 1960s; and

WHEREAS, Emily attended a boarding school of the arts where she studied classical ballet, but in the 10th grade, her passion for social issues was awakened, resulting in her participation in a sit-in demonstration at the University of North Carolina in order to protest South Africa's apartheid system; and

WHEREAS, she attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she majored in American studies and completed a senior thesis on economics and race relations in the Southern United States in the second half of the 20th century; and

WHEREAS, after graduation in 1995, Emily moved to Atlanta, where she married the love her life, Larry Jones, in 2001; and

WHEREAS, as she has commanded the esteem of her fellow Georgians, it is fitting and proper to honor such a distinguished leader and servant of the community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the outstanding accomplishments of Emily Schunior, express their sincere gratitude for her diligent service to the Working Families Caucus during the 2006 legislative session, and extend to her their best of wishes for her future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Emily Schunior.
