A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Hawkinsville High School Red Devils girls basketball team; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Hawkinsville High School Red Devils girls basketball team recently completed the 2006-2007 season with an overall exemplary record of 28 wins and four losses, winning their first state title since 2004; and

WHEREAS, the Hawkinsville Lady Red Devils, under Head Coach Shelva Lester, pulled off one of the most magnificent comebacks ever in a state championship game; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Devils trailed the entire game; however, late in the fourth quarter, the Devils caught fire with 6:43 remaining in the game, and the lead stretched back to 16 points at 43-27; and

WHEREAS, magic, luck, hard work, determination, skill, and nerves of steel and above all, the Devils' slogan, "we believe," kicked in as the Lady Devils, exemplifying courage, class, and tenacity, won the game and the championship; and

WHEREAS, the record of victories amassed by this Hawkinsville High School team is the result of the talents, athletic abilities, training, and hard work of the members of the team and the outstanding leadership of Head Coach Shelva Lester, Assistant Coach Cliff Royal, managers Jasmine Wright and Ayanna Frederick, and Videographer Ivy Brown; and

WHEREAS, the team members are Cierra Duhart, Elcia Holmes, Latoya Scot, Appolonia Ross, Kendra Roberts, Raquel Outlaw, Kierra Collier, Rachele Scott, Breanna Colson, Monshay Jackson, Kamara Bembry, Sabrina Bryant, Sharinea Coley, and Ykeshia Baker; and

WHEREAS, the team's fans and community are justly proud of its outstanding achievements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the Hawkinsville High School Red Devils girls basketball team, the 2006-2007 State Champions, and extend to the team members best wishes for continued success on and off the court.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Hawkinsville High School.
