A RESOLUTION


Honoring Bruce Goddard and inviting him to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Bruce Goddard is a noted Georgia author, a fourth generation funeral director from Reynolds, and a distinguished member of the community; and

WHEREAS, he is a graduate of the University of Georgia and Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service, and he is the former owner of Goddard Funeral Homes in Reynolds and Roberta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Bruce currently has operational responsibility of funeral homes and cemeteries throughout the United States as part of the senior field management team of Service Corporation International, which through its Dignity Memorial brand is the largest provider of funeral services in North America; and

WHEREAS, in the past few years, this country undertaker has become a renowned humorist and motivational speaker and has spoken to over 1,000 church groups, civic organizations, and conventions throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, he presents the humorous side of what can be a stressful occupation while at the same time gives thought provoking observations about life from the perspective of a small town undertaker, and the lessons he has learned in his rural funeral business have entertained and motivated thousands; and

WHEREAS, in April 2005, Bruce published his best selling book entitled View From a Hearse - Lighten Up, which is in its second printing; and

WHEREAS, he and his wife, Kathy, reside in Warner Robins and are faithful members of the Southside Baptist Church.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor the extraordinary life and career of Bruce Goddard and extend to him their sincerest best wishes for his future health and fulfillment.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Bruce Goddard is hereby invited to appear before the House of Representatives at a date and time to be fixed by the Speaker of the House for the purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution.
