RESOLUTION
Commending
the 2007 Jonesboro High School mock trial team and inviting the team and coaches
to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Jonesboro High School mock trial team has a long and celebrated history, and
this year's team is the winner of the 2007 mock trial team state championship;
and
WHEREAS,
Clayton County is the birthplace of the Georgia mock trial program and Jonesboro
High School was one of the original competitors, won the county competition for
15 straight years, went to the national competitions in 1987, 1988, and 2002,
and came in fifth in the nation in 2006; and
WHEREAS,
in 2007, Jonesboro High School once again defeated worthy opponents in the
Clayton County Region, composed of all the high schools in Clayton County, and
the mock trial team captured the region title on February 17; and
WHEREAS,
at the state competition which was held March 10-11, 2007, the Jonesboro team
faced outstanding competition in each round and emerged victorious as state
champions; and
the team will compete in the national competition to be held in Dallas, Texas, on May 10-11, 2007; and

WHEREAS,
the team includes Brian Cunningham, Lindley Curtis, Kayla Delgado, Sandra
Hagans, Lindsay Hargis, Jayda Hazell, Jurod James, Tabias Kelly, Matt
Mitchell, Braeden Orr, Laura Parkhouse, Kyle Skinner, Joe Strickland, and Britt
Walden; the teacher coaches are Anna and Andrew Cox; and the attorney coaches
are Judge John C. Carbo III, Judge Deborah Benefield, Tasha K. Mosely, and Katie
Powers.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body
commends the Jonesboro High School mock trial team on winning the 2007 state
championship, wishes the team well at the national trials, and invites the team
and coaches to appear before this body at a date and time to be determined by
the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the team
coaches.
