RESOLUTION
Commending
David L. Lyons, Chief of Police of the Garden City Police Department; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on the evening of March 16, 2007, the family of the late Felix Johnson contacted
David L. Lyons of the Garden City Police Department in order to request their
assistance in escorting Mr. Johnson's funeral procession on St. Patrick's Day;
and
WHEREAS,
with the utmost efficiency and compassion for the grieving family members of the
late Mr. Johnson, Chief Lyons arranged for two squad cars to arrive promptly on
the morning of March 17; and
WHEREAS,
despite the increased traffic activity associated with the immensely popular St.
Patrick's Day festivities of Savannah and Chatham County, the Garden City Police
Department managed the funeral procession with the highest degree of
professionalism, despite the short notice; and
WHEREAS,
the actions of the Garden City Police Department proved their commitment to
"community policing," an attitude towards law enforcement that seeks the maximum
level of cooperation among police, neighborhood businesses, and members of the
community; and
WHEREAS,
as they responded with the utmost sensitivity for the feelings of the family of
the late Mr. Johnson, their actions have brought honor to the State of
Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend David L. Lyons, Chief of Police of the Garden City Police
Department, for his outstanding assistance during the funeral procession of St.
Patrick's Day, March 17, 2007, and extend their sincerest best wishes for his
future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to David L.
Lyons.
