A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending John W. Harris III for serving the General Assembly notably with 20 years of perfect attendance; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, John W. Harris III has never missed a day of work in his 20 years of service as a member of the custodial staff at the Georgia General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, he is lovingly regarded around the Georgia State Capitol as a reliable friend who can always be counted on for a warm smile and a helping hand; and

WHEREAS, John, an Atlanta native, started working various jobs from the age of 12 to help put his eight siblings through school, and he was the sole caregiver of his elderly mother who lived with him until her passing in 2004; and

WHEREAS, he was a young entrepreneur, opening his first business at the age of 24 in the Summerhill community of Atlanta, where he was credited with helping to bring a positive resolution to a racial conflict involving a neighborhood business owner; and

WHEREAS, he served his community extensively in a number of leadership roles, including volunteering as a commissioner of the Atlanta Amateur Football League, where he helped local Atlanta youth; and

WHEREAS, John has proven himself to be a rare type of individual, one possessed of an extraordinary dedication, who, through sickness and on as many rainy days as in fair weather, put the interests of his family, coworkers, and neighbors before his own.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in recognizing the inspirational service of John W. Harris III, commending his 20 years of perfect attendance at the Georgia General Assembly, and in extending to him the best of wishes for a golden tomorrow.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to John W. Harris III.
