A RESOLUTION


Congratulating Doorkeepers Shirley Ann Harper and Max Harper; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, for a number of years, Shirley and Max have diligently served the Georgia General Assembly as doorkeepers, and they are among the most familiar faces at the state capitol building, never failing to offer a warm smile and a pleasant greeting to legislators and staff alike; and

WHEREAS, Max is a most handsome gentleman whose good looks complement Shirley's, and Shirley, a true "Georgia peach" with striking natural beauty and exemplary taste in fashion, is a renowned gospel vocalist; and

WHEREAS, on March 27, 2007, Shirley Ann Harper and Max Harper celebrate their 53rd year of wonderful marriage while fulfilling their duties as doorkeepers at the capitol; and

WHEREAS, Shirley retired in 1999 from the Department of Transportation in Forest Park, where she gave 27 years of outstanding service to the State of Georgia, and Max worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years before retiring in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Shirley and Max met in high school and married on March 27, 1954, went to work in Detroit, and returned to Atlanta where they raised their only daughter, Janet Ann, who enjoys a career in telecommunications with her husband, Craig Harmon; and

WHEREAS, Shirley and Max are active members of Jonesboro First Baptist Church where Shirley is a member of the choir and Max is involved in assisting the church with its international ministry and is an active member of the Forest Park Kiwanis Club; and

WHEREAS, for the staff of the state capitol building, Shirley and Max Harper are like cherished members of an extended family, and it is a joy to work alongside them.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate Doorkeepers Shirley Ann Harper and Max Harper on the occasion of their 53rd anniversary, express their sincerest appreciation for their excellent service as doorkeepers, and heartily wish them many more wonderful years together.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Shirley Ann and Max Harper.
