A RESOLUTION


Commending Barbara Hallstrom for her 50 years in education; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Barbara Hallstrom is widely recognized throughout this state as the personification of excellence in education; and

WHEREAS, this highly respected educator has served with honor and distinction as an educator for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, she believes that her continuing role is to act as an instrument of inspiration and enthusiasm to her pupils and to create a positive learning environment through the encouragement of competitive instincts in her students; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of her community earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, her commitment to the field of education is exemplified by her service as a member, parliamentarian, and special projects coordinator of the Georgia Library Media Association, Inc., a member of the Georgia Association for Instructional Technology, a member of the American Library Association, a member of the American Association of School Librarians, a member of the DeKalb Teacher-Librarian Advisory Committee, co-leader of the DeKalb Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, co-chair of the Georgia Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, liaison for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the professional learning liaison and the consolidated school improvement plan liaison for Canby Lane Elementary; and

WHEREAS, she was recognized as the 2002 DeKalb County School System Library Media Specialist of the Year; and

WHEREAS, very few educational professionals have had the impact that Barbara Hallstrom has had on the educational system of the State of Georgia, and there is not a more shining example of the important impact that even one educator can make on the quality of education received by the children of this state, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that her superlative accomplishments be recognized appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Barbara Hallstrom for her 50 years of sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and for the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Barbara Hallstrom.
