A RESOLUTION


Commending Dr. Charles G. Larke on his outstanding service in educating the children of Richmond County; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Charles G. Larke is the son of Alvin and the late Staretha Larke of Kathwood, South Carolina, and he has one son, Charles Derrick Larke; and

WHEREAS, he received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Paine College in 1969; a Master of Education in Administration from the University of South Carolina in 1978; an Education Specialist in Education degree from the University of Georgia in 1983; a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Georgia in 1987; and has taken graduate courses in business administration from Augusta College; certification courses in environmental science from Georgia Tech; and graduate courses in vocational curriculum supervision from Georgia State University; and

WHEREAS, in his career he has served as an algebra teacher at Tutt High School; an algebra, accounting, and business mathematics teacher at Westside High School; a coordinator of the Vocational Academic Education Program for Westside High School; an assistant principal for vocational education at Westside High School; the Director of Secondary Vocational Education for Richmond County Public Schools; the Assistant Superintendent for Vocational Services; the Interim Superintendent for Richmond County Public Schools; and the Superintendent of Richmond County Schools from April 1, 1996, to present; and

WHEREAS, in his current capacity as superintendent he is responsible for 6,000 employees, 59 schools, and various other sites housing components of the Richmond County School System; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Larke has received numerous awards for his service, including being named an Outstanding Young Man of America by the Jaycees; Administrator of the Year by the Richmond County Board of Education; the Presidential Alumni Award from Paine College; the Presidential Award for Outstanding Service from the Augusta Chapter, 100 Black Men of America, Inc.; Citizen of the Year by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Education Award; and

WHEREAS, he has given back to his community by serving with the Richmond/Burke Workforce Investment Board; the Richmond/Burke Job Training Authority; the American Red Cross Board of Directors; the Boy Scouts of America; the St. Catherine CME Church and Tabernacle Baptist Church; and the Augusta-Richmond County Partnership Council; and

WHEREAS, he is a member of many professional organizations, including the National Education Association; the Georgia Association of Educators; the Georgia School Superintendents Association; the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders; the Richmond County Association of Educators; the Association for Career and Technical Education; the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education; and the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting that we honor this outstanding educator for his invaluable service in delivering the gift of education to the young people of Richmond County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Dr. Charles G. Larke on his outstanding service in educating the children of Richmond County.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Charles G. Larke.
