RESOLUTION
Honoring
Reverend Michael Benton on the occasion of his 30th pastoral anniversary; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Michael Benton has served as the esteemed pastor of Fairfield Baptist
Church in Lithonia, Georgia, for the past 30 years; and
WHEREAS,
Pastor Benton began his spiritual walk at the Big Miller Grove Baptist Church in
Lithonia, Georgia, accepting his calling to preach the Word of the Lord on May
29, 1975, and preaching his first public message in August 1975; and
WHEREAS,
he was licensed in 1976 and ordained in 1977, the same year he became the proud
pastor of Fairfield Baptist Church, shepherding approximately 200 members for
two Sundays a month; and
WHEREAS,
his inspirational message has attracted others to the church and the membership
currently totals over 2,000, resulting in an expansion which includes a Family
Life Center, an Administrative and Educational Center built in 2002, and a
parking deck erected in 2004; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Benton's many achievements will stand as symbols of dignity, pride, and
honor for his congregation and the citizens of this state for generations to
come.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor Reverend Michael Benton on the occasion of his 30th pastoral
anniversary at Fairfield Baptist Church and express to him their immense
gratitude and respect.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend
Michael Benton.
