A RESOLUTION


Expressing regret at the passing of Robert Thomas "Tommy" Jarrard; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia recently lost one of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the passing of Robert Thomas "Tommy" Jarrard; and

WHEREAS, Tom was born on July 30, 1943, in Newnan, Georgia, son of the late Bornell Charles Jarrard and Virginia Trammell Jarrard; and

WHEREAS, Tom graduated from Gainesville High School and attended North Georgia College where he was the Cadet Corps´ Brigade Commander, earning his degree and commission as Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1965; and

WHEREAS, after serving as a company commander in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged from the army in 1969 and attended the University of Georgia Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1972; and

WHEREAS, Tom moved his family to Gainesville, where he was known as a fine attorney with a wonderful sense of humor, and he practiced law there for the remainder of his life; and

WHEREAS, not only was he a skilled lawyer in the areas of intellectual and real property, but also a skilled fly fisherman; and

WHEREAS, Tom´s survivors include his wife of 41 years, Nancy Johnson Jarrard; his children, Lt. Colonel and Mrs. Jamie Jarrard, Major and Mrs. Kevin Jarrard, and Mr. and Mrs. Jason Coffee; his grandchildren, Sydney, Mckenna, Jack, Anne, Caleb, Hannah, Rachel, Ethan, Patrick, Rebecca, Date, and Megan; his sister-in-law, Janet Jarrard, and niece, Amanda Jarrard, of Nashville; his wife´s sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Bob Dodson of Cedartown, Peggy and George Thompson of Dahlonega, and JoAn Cox of Acworth; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Mr. Kevin Morgan, who Tom loved as a son, his wife Denise, and daughter Jessica, of Cleveland; and

WHEREAS, this beloved individual exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties throughout his law career; and

WHEREAS, the passing of this generous, kind, and devoted family man leaves an unfillable void in the hearts and lives of his family and friends.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of Robert Thomas "Tommy" Jarrard; commend the care, courage, sympathy, and selfless dedication he exhibited in carrying out his duties; and extend to his family their utmost appreciation for his having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of graciousness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Robert Thomas "Tommy" Jarrard.
