RESOLUTION
Redesignating
portions of I-285 as the Joe Lee Thompson Highway; repealing and rewriting part
of a Resolution Act approved May 1, 2000 (Ga. L. 2000, p. 1906); and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Georgia native Joe Lee Thompson has served as a Cobb County Commissioner from
1993 through the present; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a state senator from Cobb County from 1973 through 1984; and
WHEREAS
he has been employed as a bank vice president and is currently self-employed in
real estate management; and
WHEREAS,
he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from Georgia Tech
and has served in numerous civic and business associations; and
WHEREAS,
he has devoted a significant amount of his time to improving the quality of life
in Cobb County and the State of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of
I-285 between the I-75 Interchange in Cobb County and southward to the
Chattahoochee River is hereby redesignated and shall henceforth be known as the
Joe Lee Thompson Highway in his honor; and the Department of Transportation is
authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs identifying the
same.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED a Resolution Act approved May 1, 2000 (Ga. L. 2000, p.
1906), Senate Resolution Number 484, is rewritten by repealing the existing
designation of the James E. "Billy" McKinney Highway which reads:
"BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the portion of I-285 in Fulton County beginning at Exit
10A/B at I-20 and SR 402 and proceeding northward into Cobb County to Exit 20 at
I-75/Cobb Parkway/SR3 shall be designated as the James E. 'Billy' McKinney
Highway."
and
inserting in its place the following:
"BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the portion of I-285 in Fulton County beginning at Exit
10A/B at I-20 and SR 402 and proceeding northward to the Chattahoochee River
shall be designated as the James B. 'Billy' McKinney
Highway."
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Joe Lee
Thompson and the Department of Transportation.
