A RESOLUTION


Commending the Savannah Arts Academy's Silver Winds Ensemble; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Savannah Arts Academy's Silver Winds Ensemble was formed in August 1998 under the direction of Michael E. Hutchinson, Ed. S., as one of the major symphonic ensembles in the Savannah Arts Academy's Music Department; and

WHEREAS, members of the Silver Winds Ensemble, while attending the 2007 Georgia Music Educators Association First District "Performance Evaluation Festival" at Armstrong Atlantic State University on March 10, 2007, earned superior ratings from all the performance and sight-reading adjudicators for the ninth consecutive year; and

WHEREAS, six members of the Silver Winds Ensemble, Jaron McCarr, Mark Spradley, Nancy Ryerson, Amanda Barrow, Cherylann Vega-Velez, and Tung Vu, were selected through a state audition process as members of the 2007 All-State Concert Band; 16 members have been selected as Governor's Honors Program participants over the past nine years; and 49 members have been selected as members of the 2007 Georgia Music Educators Association District One Honor Band; and

WHEREAS, conductor Michael E. Hutchinson was selected as Savannah Arts Academy's 2003 Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the music of the Silver Winds Ensemble is truly balm for the wounded spirit, hope for the discouraged, magic for the dreamer, and is as beautiful and valuable as silver and as powerful as the wind.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Savannah Arts Academy's Silver Winds Ensemble for their outstanding performances and tremendous achievements and extend their best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Savannah Arts Academy's Silver Winds Ensemble.
