A RESOLUTION

Commending the State University of West Georgia Cheerleading Teams; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in 2002 and 2003, the West Georgia Braves´ cheer program rose to national prominence, winning back-to-back UCA Division II National Championships, and as they prepared for the 2007 nationals, many wondered if the university´s program could match its past accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, under the direction of head coach Sherry Cooney and assistant coach John Morgan, the coed cheer squad established its reputation and place as a national dynasty by winning its sixth straight UCA Division II Championship as the Braves´ squad out-hustled and outshone an impressive crop of competitors in the competition finals; and

WHEREAS, West Georgia´s championship in the coed competition was not its first title of the weekend, as a gifted young West Georgia all-girls team won its third national title in the event; and

WHEREAS, coed squad team members are Candice Abney, Cory Brown, Eric Deal, Gennah Duclo, Gennal Duclo, David Forrest, Michael Kirby, Tommy Lane, Sarah Masters, Ryan McKinnon, Amber Melear, Brittany Moss, Brian Nichols, Sarah Roberts, Stephanie Shouse, and John Tuggle; and

WHEREAS, the all-girls squad consists of Erica Baldwin, Ciara Carter, Lindsay Evanson, Ashley Hardin, Hollis Johnson, Megan Johnson, Dana Jones, Mallory Jones, Amy Phillips, Kristi Phillips, Peggy "Amanda" Reeves, Megan Sparks, Samantha Stevenson, Ashley Stone, Kristin Urquhart, Nicollette Williams, Amy Wood, and Ashley Zimmerman, and all members of each team displayed a level of competitive spirit that has rarely been equaled.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the State University of West Georgia Cheerleading Teams on their dominating win of the Division II All-Girl Cheerleading Competition and Coed Cheerleading Competition.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the State University of West Georgia cheerleading teams and their coaches.
