RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life of Charles J. Hosti; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on October 30, 2006, Georgia lost one of its most distinguished public servants
with the passing of Charles J. Hosti; and
WHEREAS,
he was affectionately called Charlie by those who knew him and he is perhaps
best remembered for his many accomplishments over his years of service to the
City of Tybee Island as its mayor and as an active private citizen always
working for the betterment of the Tybee Island community; and
WHEREAS,
this beloved mayor and public servant served for three consecutive terms of
office, a glowing tribute to the respect for him that was held by his
constituency; and
WHEREAS,
as mayor and public servant, he worked diligently for the betterment of his
community often at great sacrifice to himself and his family, and his many
achievements include membership on the Rails to Trails Committee that saw the
completion of the walking trails on Hwy 80, initiation of Rescue Squad Number 6
to increase ambulance service to the people on Tybee Island; and his support for
the purchase of the jaws-of-life equipment for the local fire department to
assist in life-saving emergency services; and
WHEREAS,
as further evidence of his outstanding moral character and dedication to good
government, he signed a resolution supporting the state lottery for education
and increased the fiscal responsibility of the city and began requiring four
signatures for the issuance of building permits; and
WHEREAS,
Charlie Hosti was a remarkable man filled with much strength of character and
compassion for those in need, and he will always be remembered in the hearts of
those who knew him and loved him dearly; and
WHEREAS,
Charles J. Hosti was a tireless, dedicated civil servant who truly gave his all,
unconditionally, to the development and growth of Tybee Island and whose
contributions to the community as a civic leader leave a legacy that will never
be forgotten.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life of Charles J. Hosti and express their sorrow
at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Charles J. Hosti.
